The stock market book for beginners
Das komplette Börsengrundwissen
You want to put your money to work but you are not sure how to start? In this book, Oliver Sparing closes the gap between not knowing and being confident about the markets – and introduces four distinct investor types, from the occasional saver to the full-time trader.
Oliver Sparing · trader and author
Four parallel paths – not a ladder. You choose the one that fits your life.
The problem at the start is rarely knowledge.
It is orientation.
Anyone starting out finds a thousand opinions and no order: methods, recommendations, promises. This book sorts the field – which paths the markets offer, what each of them asks in capital, time and experience, and which one fits your life. So that what stands at the beginning is not a method, but a decision.
Anyone can use the markets
to put their money to work
Many books on the markets dive straight into complicated methods. One essential question stays unanswered: what do the markets actually offer me, given the life I have right now – and what do I need to bring?
The book describes four investor types. For each one it explains how much capital is required, how much experience and time the approach demands, and what is actually being traded. The most common psychological traps and the management of money and risk are covered in detail.
It also takes on a common prejudice: the market is not a playground for the wealthy, it is a marketplace anyone can use – whatever their financial room for manoeuvre.

What readers say

Listen on AmazonThe content of this book is for educational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice. Investing in financial markets carries risk. All trading decisions are your own.
Is there an English edition?
Not at the moment. The book, the audiobook and the e-book are all in German, and so is the excerpt above. If an English edition happens, you will find it here first.
Everything else on tradeneon.com – the software, the systems, the tutorials – is available in English.
Do I need any prior knowledge?
No, the book starts at zero. Chapter 1 opens with a story in which Oliver Sparing loses 450 of his first 500 euros, precisely because that knowledge was missing. From there, every term is introduced before it is used.
If you do get stuck, the book closes with a glossary of more than 20 pages – you do not have to read it front to back.
Who is it for – and who is it not for?
It is written for people standing before the first decision: open an account or not, index funds or single stocks, on the side or seriously. Chapter 4 describes four investor types and says, for each, how much time, capital and experience it demands.
Honestly: if you already trade to a fixed set of rules and are looking for another strategy, this is the wrong book. It teaches groundwork and orientation, not setups.
Does it give specific buy recommendations?
No. No shopping lists, no portfolio suggestions, no signals. A recommendation that knows nothing about your capital, your horizon and your risk tolerance is not a recommendation, it is a tip.
What you do get are the criteria to choose for yourself – for an ETF, for instance, the expense ratio, fund size, distribution policy and replication method.
Does it cover psychology and risk?
Yes, in a chapter of roughly 70 pages: mindset, the common mental traps in the markets, and risk and money management set out separately for each of the four investor types.
That is also where the arithmetic sits for why even five percent risk per trade is too much in most cases.
Which format should I choose?
The paperback is the reference copy – 392 pages to mark up and turn back to. The e-book has search and notes, handy for the glossary. The audiobook is included with an Audible subscription.
There is a listening sample with the formats.
